Speaking at the UN General Assembly, ReNew Founder, Chairman, and CEO Sumant Sinha—the only private sector leader invited to address the gathering—highlighted India’s remarkable strides in the clean energy transition. During his address, he emphasized the critical role global businesses must play in driving actionable climate solutions.

India has remained a strong supporter of the Paris Agreement and achieved several of its climate and renewable energy targets ahead of schedule. With 44 GW of renewable energy capacity added in 2025, the scale of the transition is becoming increasingly significant.

Sumant highlighted the growing role of distributed renewable energy, private capital and greater collaboration between governments and businesses.

Looking ahead, the focus will need to extend to stronger grids, greater energy storage, wider electrification and ensuring that the transition delivers inclusive and sustainable development.
